Zanzibar as a tourist destination. Why and where?

Zanzibar as a tourist destination. Why and where?  : Zanzibar  situated in the eastern part of Africa, is a constituent part of the United Republic of Tanzania, comprising approximately 54 isles. However, it is renowned primarily for its two major islands, Unguja and Pemba. Zanzibar operates as a semi-autonomous state with its own government and administrative system. Over the past four years, Zanzibar has consistently been awarded the title of the most visited tourist destination in Africa. This recognition can be attributed to various factors such as political stability, exceptional levels of hospitality, a wealth of top attractions, and strong community engagement, among others.

UNGUJA ISLAND

ZANZIBAR TOWN, Historically, this area of Zanzibar has been famously known as Zanzibar Town, owing to past political events during the Sultanic era. Visitors will gain insight into this history during a tour of Stone Town. However, in contemporary times, not only tourists but also indigenous Tanzanians and our East African neighbors refer to Unguja Island as Zanzibar Town. There are two primary gateways for accessing Zanzibar: the airport and the seaport. Amani Abeid Karume International Airport comprises three terminals: Terminal One (reserved for VIPs), Terminal Two (serving domestic flights and a few international airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines), and Terminal Three (dedicated to international flights). The seaport terminal facilitates transportation between Zanzibar, mainland Tanzania, and Pemba Island, featuring a single entrance and exit.

Unguja Island is divided into four distinct and highly visited zones: Town Zone, North Zone, North East Zone, East Coast Zone, and South Zone. Each zone possesses unique features and attractions that set it apart from the others. Let's explore the characteristics of each zone:

With abundant marine resources, Pemba offers exceptional diving and snorkeling experiences in East and Central Africa. Access to Pemba is facilitated through two gateways: the airport and sea ferry. The international airport features two terminals catering to international and domestic flights, with the latter being particularly busy due to daily schedules from Unguja Island, also known as Zanzibar Town.
