Day 1: Solio Game Reserve

Rhinos in Solio

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, meet with your guide and head to Wilson Airport for a flight to Solio Game Reserve in the Aberdares Region. This private game reserve is a prime example for rhino conservation and it is arguably the best place of East Africa to see rhinos in large numbers. The best part of Solio Game Reserve is that it is you won’t meet any other travelers on your game drive as it is an exclusive reserve.

Solio Game Reserve is also home to lions, buffaloes, waterbucks and many other bird species, living amongst the beautiful yellow fever acacia forests. Spend a night at the intimate Rhino Watch Safari Lodge. During your safari in Solio, you can even see Mount Kenya in the distance if you are lucky.

Day 2: Nakuru National Park

Enjoy an early morning game drive and after a delicious breakfast, then drive towards Lake Nakuru National Park. On your way, make a stop at Nyahururu – Kenya’s highest water and watch the water as they plunge down from 72 meters. Passing by local villages, you will arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park for your afternoon game drive. This beautiful park is haven for bird-lovers, well known for its large flamingo population which colors the lake in a pink hue, depending on water levels and time of the year.

Also, Lake Nakuru National Park is home to the rare Rothschild’s giraffe and the endangered black and white rhinos. In only two days you will have seen more of the animals of East Africa than you might imagine. When the sunsets, head to Flamingo Hill Tented Camp your home for tonight.

Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, you will drive south heading to the magical Masai Mara. On your way across the Great Rift Valley and pass Lake Naivasha and Mount Suswa, an inactive volcano. Journey deeper into the land of the Maasai, you will arrive at Maasai Mara National Reserve one of the most spectacular places for wildlife sightings on the continent.

In the afternoon enjoy your first game drive for excellent sightings of the Big Five – elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopards and rhinos among other species. Return to Julia’s River Camp for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4-5: Masai Mara National Reserve

These two days are dedicated to exploring the vast Maasai Mara National Reserve. Head out bright and early for a whole day to explore the Mara. If you visit during the Great Migration when hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras follow the rain and migrate to Kenya from Tanzania’s Serengeti, make a stop at the Mara River. Here you may be lucky and witness a river crossing when the herbivores cross the river, trying to avoid the snatch of a hungry crocodile.

These best thing about your days in Maasai Mara is you are in no rush and can experience each moment to the fullest. Once you have seen the Big Five, turn your main focus to other animals like hyenas, zebras, waterbucks, giraffes that come to the rivers to quench their thirst, while hippos and crocodiles wallow in the murky waters. Return to your camp for an evening chat, dinner and another night of stay in the bush at Julia’s River Camp.

Day 6: Lake Victoria, Tanzania

Today is the last morning in Kenya with a day starting early. Take in the views of the Mara for the last time before head out towards the Tanzanian border at Isebania. After clearing with the immigration, you journey to Lake Victoria one of the largest lake on the continent, spend the afternoon at leisure in the Speke Bay Resort, take a walk along the lake shores, visit the local fishing village or even catch up on your emails and chat with your friends and family home, all while enjoying the calming views of Lake Victoria.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park

Today is your first morning in Tanzania starting with a canoe trip across Lake Victoria. Together with a local fisherman, you sail across the largest lake in Africa, while he explains how to catch fish the traditional way. Back at the fishing village you can admire the last night’s catch. With a short one hour drive, you will reach the gate of the Serengeti and your game drive begins.

Serengeti National Park together with the Masai Mara host the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras. If you have missed witnessing the herds in Masai Mara, this is your chance to see this natural spectacle in Tanzania. In the afternoon you will arrive at the Kati Kati Tented camp located in the middle of the Serengeti, this exclusive and unfenced tented camp brings you as close to nature and the Great Migration.

Day 8: Serengeti National Park

Wake up to the melodic sound of birds chirping and the sun rising and enjoy a delicious bush breakfast in the Central Serengeti. Together with your experienced guide you have all day to continue your exploring adventure of the Serengeti. Enjoy private game viewing and sightings of large prides of lions, herds of elephants and buffaloes among others.

Return to Kati Kati Tented Camp, join other guests in front of the bush Tv – the campfire crackling in the night.

Day 9 — Karatu

 Enjoy breakfast, leave Serengeti early on a game drive watching out for more predators when temperatures are cooler, big cats are more active and embark on the hunt. You arrive in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the late morning and drive into the world – famous Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive.

Ngorongoro Crater is large inactive volcanic caldera, home to more than 25,000 animals including large herds of zebras, buffaloes and prides of lions roaming the crater floor. The steep crater walks covered in thick mountain forest are always visible, marking the boundaries of this wildlife haven, a truly unique place. After your game drive you continue to nearby Karatu and spend the last night of your East Africa safari in the beautiful Tiloma Lodge.

Day 10: End of the Safari

After a relaxed breakfast, bid farewell to the Ngorongoro Highlands and make your way to Arusha where you will arrive around midday and drop off at the airport for your onward flight.
